Note Detector
A fake banknote accepted at your counter is a direct loss — and it happens more often than most businesses realise. A note detector (counterfeit note detector) is the fastest, most affordable first line of defence against counterfeit MYR banknotes at the point of transaction. Place one at every cashier counter and your staff can verify any suspect note in seconds — before it enters your cash float.
WOW Supplies carries a full range of note detectors from basic UV pen-style and UV lamp detectors to advanced automatic multi-currency detectors with UV, MG, IR, and WM detection. Whether you need a simple, low-cost UV detector for a small retail counter or a fully automatic detector for a high-transaction money changer or bank teller desk, we have the right model to match your environment and budget.
All note detectors sold by WOW Supplies are suitable for MYR (Malaysian Ringgit) verification and come with an official warranty and local after-sales support. Models available from RM75 — Biosystem NP888, Safescan 40, Safescan 50, Safescan 70, Safescan 165-S, and Safescan 185-S.

Frequently Asked Questions — Note Detector Malaysia
What is a note detector and how does it work?
A note detector (also called a counterfeit note detector or fake note detector) is a device that verifies the authenticity of banknotes at the point of transaction. It works by exposing the banknote to one or more detection methods — most commonly UV (ultraviolet) light, which reveals the hidden security features printed on genuine banknotes such as fluorescent fibres, security strips, and watermarks that are extremely difficult to replicate on counterfeit notes. More advanced models add MG (magnetic ink detection), IR (infrared), and WM (watermark) sensors for a more thorough multi-layer verification.
What is the difference between a manual and an automatic note detector?
A manual note detector requires the cashier to place the banknote under the UV lamp or sensor and visually inspect the result themselves. Models such as the Biosystem NP888, Safescan 40, Safescan 50, and Safescan 70 are manual detectors — compact, affordable, and suitable for low to medium transaction volumes where staff can perform a quick visual check on suspect notes.
An automatic note detector scans the banknote automatically as it is inserted through a slot, and alerts the operator with a sound or light signal if the note fails verification — no visual inspection required. The Safescan 165-S and Safescan 185-S are automatic models. They are faster, more consistent, and less dependent on staff training — ideal for high-transaction counters such as money changers, bank teller desks, busy retail cashiers, and hotel front desks where speed and reliability are critical.
What detection methods do note detectors use?
UV (Ultraviolet) — the most common detection method. UV light reveals fluorescent security features embedded in genuine banknotes. Entry-level detectors such as the Biosystem NP888 and Safescan 40 use UV detection.
MG (Magnetic) — detects the magnetic ink used in printing genuine banknotes. Magnetic properties are very difficult to replicate and provide a reliable secondary layer of verification.
IR (Infrared) — scans the infrared absorption patterns of genuine banknote ink, which vary by denomination and cannot be easily reproduced on photocopied or inkjet-printed counterfeits.
WM (Watermark) — uses transmitted light to reveal the watermark embedded in genuine banknote paper.
Higher-end models such as the Safescan 185-S combine multiple detection methods simultaneously, providing the most comprehensive counterfeit verification available in a desktop note detector.
Which note detector model should I choose?
Biosystem NP888 (RM75) — basic UV detector, ideal for low-budget, low-transaction environments such as small stalls, home businesses, or as a backup detector.
Safescan 40 (RM98) — entry-level UV detector from Safescan, reliable and compact for small retail and F&B cashier counters.
Safescan 50 (RM250) — UV + white light detector with a larger viewing area, suitable for mid-range retail and service counters.
Safescan 70 (RM350) — UV + MG + WM detection, a good all-round manual detector for businesses wanting more than UV alone.
Safescan 165-S (RM615) — automatic multi-detection (UV, MG, IR, WM) with audible alert. Best choice for medium to high transaction counters wanting automatic scanning without manual inspection.
Safescan 185-S (RM1,209) — automatic multi-currency detector with the most comprehensive detection suite. Ideal for money changers, bank counters, and any business that handles both MYR and foreign currencies at high volume.
Can note detectors verify foreign currencies?
Basic UV detectors (Biosystem NP888, Safescan 40, Safescan 50, Safescan 70) can be used on foreign banknotes as genuine notes from most countries also carry UV-reactive security features, though the specific patterns will differ from MYR. The Safescan 185-S is specifically designed as a multi-currency automatic detector with support for a wide range of international currencies, making it the recommended choice for money changers and businesses that regularly handle USD, EUR, SGD, and other foreign banknotes alongside MYR.
Is a note detector enough or do I also need a note counter?
They serve different purposes and ideally work together. A note detector is your point-of-transaction tool — it checks individual suspect notes at the cashier counter the moment they are received. A note counter is your end-of-day reconciliation tool — it counts and verifies your entire cash batch quickly and accurately after the business day closes. For complete cash security, use a note detector at every cashier counter during trading hours and a note counter for daily cash reconciliation. If budget is a constraint, a note counter with built-in UV and MG detection can serve both purposes adequately for lower transaction volumes.
Are note detectors suitable for MYR (Malaysian Ringgit)?
Yes. All note detectors sold by WOW Supplies are suitable for verifying MYR banknotes including RM1, RM5, RM10, RM20, RM50, and RM100 denominations. Malaysian Ringgit banknotes carry multiple built-in security features detectable by UV, MG, and IR methods — including fluorescent security threads, fluorescent fibres, and magnetic ink — making them well suited for verification by even entry-level note detectors.
Do note detectors come with a warranty?
Yes. All note detectors sold by WOW Supplies (wows.com.my) come with an official warranty and access to our after-sales support team in Malaysia. For warranty claims or product enquiries, contact us via WhatsApp at 018-207 0021 or call 603-8066 6550.
