What is the difference between a guillotine and a rotary trimmer?
A guillotine has a long straight blade that comes down onto a stack of paper — think of a lever arm you press down to cut through multiple sheets at once. It handles thicker stacks quickly and is better for high-volume cutting. A rotary trimmer uses a small circular blade that slides along a rail — you push it from one end to the other to cut. It is more precise for single sheets or small batches and is safer to use since the blade is enclosed. For most offices, a rotary trimmer is sufficient. For print shops or anyone regularly cutting thick stacks, a guillotine is faster and more practical.
Should I get an A4 or A3 paper cutter?
Buy based on the largest paper size you regularly work with. If you only ever cut A4 documents, photos, or flyers — an A4 cutter is sufficient and takes up less desk space. If you work with A3 posters, spreads, or print materials, you need an A3 cutter. An A3 cutter can also handle A4 and smaller sizes, so if you occasionally need A3 but mostly do A4, the A3 model gives you more flexibility.
What does 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 mean on a rotary trimmer?
Some rotary trimmers come with interchangeable blade cartridges that allow different types of cuts beyond a straight line.
