Frequently Asked Questions — Auto Feed Shredder Malaysia
Should I get an auto feed shredder or a conventional shredder?
Depends on what matters more to you — convenience or speed.
An auto feed shredder wins on convenience. Stack your documents, close the lid, and walk away — the machine does the rest while you focus on other work. Great if you frequently have large batches to shred and don't want to stand over the machine.
A conventional shredder is actually faster at finishing the job. It shreds continuously as you feed, whereas an auto feed machine feeds one sheet at a time internally — so a 100-sheet auto feed load takes longer to complete than manually feeding the same 100 sheets through a fast conventional shredder. Conventional shredders also require less maintenance and have fewer moving parts to service.
Bottom line: if your priority is not having to be present while shredding, go auto feed. If raw throughput speed matters more, a good conventional shredder will finish faster.
Can I put a book or stapled papers into the auto feed tray?
No. The auto feed tray accepts individual loose sheets only. Do not insert books, folders, or stapled documents into the tray. Stapled papers must be separated and all staples removed before stacking them in the auto feed tray. Feeding bound or stapled materials will jam the auto feeder mechanism and can cause serious damage to the machine. When in doubt — separate first, then stack.
Do auto feed shredders need shredder oil?
Yes — auto feed shredders still need regular oiling just like conventional shredders. The cutting blades are the same type of mechanism and oil is essential to keep them sharp, prevent jams, and extend the machine's life. Apply shredder oil across the cutting head opening regularly — every time you empty the bin is a good habit. Use proper shredder oil only, never WD-40 or general lubricants. We carry shredder oil here.
How many sheets of auto feed capacity do I actually need?
Think about your typical shredding batch size — how many sheets do you normally shred in one sitting? If you're mostly clearing small daily piles of 30 to 50 sheets, an entry-level model like the GBC 50X or Primus PRS-130CA is sufficient. If you regularly shred larger batches — end-of-month document purges, bulk HR or financial record disposal — a model with 150 to 300 sheet capacity like the GBC ShredMaster 150M or 225M gives you more breathing room per load. The Fellowes AutoMax 550C and Primus PRS-1000C are for high-volume operations shredding very large batches daily.
