Manual Perforator

A manual perforator does something no rubber stamp or printed label can — it physically pierces text, dates, or numbers directly into paper, making the impression impossible to alter without obvious damage. That’s why they’re the go-to tool for document authentication, cheque security, form control, and official record-keeping. If your organisation handles documents that need tamper-proof marking, a manual perforator is the right piece of equipment.

We carry 13 manual perforators from two specialist brands — New Kon and Pernuma.

Frequently Asked Questions — Manual Perforator

What does a manual perforator actually do?

A manual perforator punches tiny holes through the paper in the shape of letters, numbers, or dates — physically removing material from the document rather than printing on top of it. The result is a permanent impression that can't be erased, overwritten, or altered without it being immediately obvious. This makes perforated text far more secure than stamps or printed text for things like cheque protection, document authentication, form voiding, or marking original records with a date or company identifier.

What's the difference between a text perforator and a date perforator?

A text perforator (Pernuma Perfoset I/T and II/T) uses a fixed set of characters — typically a company name, a word like "VOID" or "CANCELLED", or a custom phrase — that is permanently set into the machine. It's ideal when the same message needs to be perforated into documents repeatedly without changing. A date perforator (Pernuma Perfoset I/D and II/D) uses interchangeable metal slides, so the date or number can be updated as needed. This makes it the right choice for daily document control, received stamps, or any workflow where the perforated content changes over time.

What do the I and II mean in the Pernuma model names?

The Roman numerals refer to the sheet capacity of the machine. Pernuma I models (Perfoset I/T and I/D) can perforate up to 15 sheets of 70gsm paper in a single operation, with an insertion depth of about 75mm. Pernuma II models (Perfoset II/T and II/D) can handle up to 25 sheets at once, with a deeper insertion depth of 100mm and a wider text area. If you're perforating single sheets or small sets, the I models are sufficient. For thicker stacks or larger documents, go with the II.

What's the difference between single line and double line on the New Kon models?

Single line perforators punch one row of numbers across the document. Double line perforators punch two rows simultaneously — useful when you need more digits, want to perforate in two positions at once, or require a more prominent impression on larger documents. New Kon's double line models also come in pin or level configurations, which affects the activation mechanism. If you're mainly numbering invoices or forms with 7 digits or fewer, a single line model is usually sufficient. For 8 to 10 digit requirements or high-volume document control, the double line models are the better fit.

How many sheets can a manual perforator handle at once?

It depends on the model. The New Kon PR-10 handy perforator is a lighter portable unit suited for single or small-stack use. The larger New Kon fixed models (208 and 207 series) handle thicker stacks. On the Pernuma side, Series I machines handle up to 15 sheets of 70gsm paper per operation, while Series II machines go up to 25 sheets. If you're regularly perforating multi-copy forms or thick document sets, go for a Series II or one of the heavier New Kon fixed models.

Can a manual perforator be used on cheques or security documents?

Yes — cheque protection is one of the most common use cases for manual perforators in Malaysia. Perforating the amount or "PAID" into a cheque makes it extremely difficult to alter the document fraudulently. Banks and finance teams also use them on payment vouchers, official letters, and contracts. If your primary use is cheque security, the text perforator models are usually the most practical choice since the wording stays fixed.
